Zolo Malbec Gaucho Select 2011

Yesterday, I received a text from "Big Daddy" indicating he was making steak for dinner and could we have that wine from Argentina...first I thought he meant Chile. Then when I got home and looked through the rack of wine, there it was Zolo Malbec Gaucho Select 2011.

This wine is very hearty and so balanced. When you pour it into a glass the first thing you notice is the color. It has a rich and deep dark red color with purple hues. The aromas such as black cherry and strawberries really are present. When you taste it, it has a great full body with a hint of raspberry and wonderful finish that lingers on your palate with just a hint of spice. So easy to enjoy both by itself or with a great meal.

Here is some information on the winery:
"Tapiz Winery is blessed by a unique and remarkably consistent configuration of sun, soil, and cooling glaciers, the possibilities for world-class wine making in Argentina are indisputable. At Tapiz Winery, we are committed viticultural practices that utilize the best of both modern and traditional wine making strategies with a tremendous respect for the environment. Our goal: to produce the finest wines ever to come from Argentina. The vineyards located in Mendoza and Salta, with altitudes ranging from 3000 to 4400 feet high. Flanked by the imposing Andes mountain range, these vineyards are subjected to unique bio- climatic characteristics, thus making it a unique place for wine making."

We had it with a nice steak, boiled new potatoes, grilled crookneck squash with Parmesan cheese, roasted brussel sprouts (my favorite - Thank You Ina Garden) mixed green salad and some fresh grilled pita bread...

This is a FANTASTIC Malbec and really priced well at $15.99. Watch for it as it does go on sale from time to time.

This wine definitely MADE "The Pig Jump Over the Moon"!
Try it and let me know what you think. Great price and a great wine!
